Self-Propelled Spray Rig Built from IH Cotton Picker
I built a self-propelled spray rig out of a 416 IH cotton picker. I mounted two 200 gal. tanks on the sides and made shields to mount in front of the wheels out of poly barrels and plywood. I used the two long cylinders, originally used to dump the cotton basket, on the front lift arms. They let me lower the 40-ft. boom to within inches of the ground or run it at a height satisfactory for spraying mature cotton over the top. The boom wings fold individually and there's also a cylinder that tilts the boom forward or back to keep it level. Visibility is very good.
Including the $300 for the picker, I spent only about $1,400 to build it. (Peyton Smith, 145 Quail Road, Covington, Tenn. 38019 ph 901476-9094)
