Solar-Heated Tank Heater
"We've found it to be of great help to cattlemen trying to maintain ice-free drinking water for livestock," reports Dick Carmack, sales manager for U.S. Solar Pillow, manufacturer of the new Solar Rancher.
The inflatable plastic bag is designed to collect the sun's heat and transfer it to the water. "The clear vinyl top admits radiation from the sun, traps it in the black bottom, then transfers it by conduction to the water," explains Carmack. "If a crust of ice forms in the night, the Solar Rancher will usually melt it within an hour or two after sunup. On the average, it adds over 700 btu's pei square ft. per day to your watering tank.
"At zero degrees, there usually is ice-free water under the Solai Rancher," explains Carmack. "When the temperature falls to 20 or 30 below, however, it won't do the complete job."
The Solar Rancher measures 25 in, by 54 in. deflated. Sells for $14.95.
