He Burns Oil To Get Rid Of Tree Stumps
Here’s a quick and easy method I came up with for getting rid of tree stumps. Instead of grinding them down or grubbing them out, I just cut a triangular-shaped chunk out of the center of the stump, using the end of my chainsaw. It makes a hole 6 to 7 in. deep. Then I fill up the hole with a quart or two of any kind of used oil. As the oil soaks in, I pour in more oil.
Because water is heavier than oil, rain would force the oil out so I put a bucket over the stump. After the oil has soaked in for a couple weeks, I light it and the stump burns itself into the ground. If you want to speed up the process you can use diesel fuel or gasoline.
Here’s another idea. When splitting wood, I keep an axe or long-handled hatchet next to me for picking up pieces of wood on the ground. Works good and saves bending over. (John Youngblood, Green Isle, Minn.)
