Front-Mounted Power System
You can double the use of your tractors for about 20% of their cost, says the manufacturer of the revolutionary Front Power System, introduced by Ferranti Engineering, headquartered in England.
"Although still relatively new, we're already receiving orders from all corners of the world, including Japan, Australia, and Malaysia," R. E. Harkness export sales manager, told FARM SHOW. "We're the only company offering a 3 pt. hitch with a lift capacity of 1 ton, and a front mechanical pto which incorporates an electro-hydraulic control system operating completely independent of the tractor."
Harkness notes that the Front Power System is available in 1/a or 1 ton capacity models, either of which can be installed in 2 or 3 hours without special tools, and without having to do any welding or drilling. The pto and 3 pt. linkage are available separately, or as a complete system.
The self-contained pto has a gear box, clutch and its own hydraulic
system. A push-pull switch in the cab energizes a 12 volt solenoid to energize and release the clutch.
"There is virtually no limit on the number of front and rear equipment combinations that can be used with the new system," explains Harkness. For example, you can windrow hay up front and bale it in the back, prepare the seedbed and plant in one operation, spray up front and plant or till behind, or gang mow with one mower up front and two offset on each side behind.
In England, several firms have introduced front-mounted equipment designed for use with the Ferranti front pto and/or 3 pt. hitch. In some cases, pto-driven equipment originally designed for pulling behind the tractor has been torn down and reassembled in reverse so it can be mounted up front where it is pushed rather than pulled.
The Ferranti 1-ton capacity front 3 pt. hitch is available for tractors in the 50 to 90 hp. range and can be used the front hitch and pto drive are available for most models in the 50 to 90 ailable for most models in the 50 to 90 hp, range for the following tractors: International, Ford, Massey Ferguson, David Brown, Deutz, and Fiat. It's expected that kits for other popular tractors will be available shortly.
"Selling price to the U.S. farmer will, of course, depend upon the eventual marketing strategy to be developed," Harkness explains. As a guide, he estimates that the 3 pt. linkage will probably retail for about $1,500 and the front-mounted pto for about $2,300. "We anticipate a sizeable potential market in the U.S. and welcome inquiries from farmers, dealers and manufacturers," Harkness told FARM SHOW.
