Easy Off Carrier For Pickup Spares PICKUPS Accessories 6-6-28 Anyone who's ever fought with a muddy pickup spare will be amazed by the simplicity of a new spare tire handler invented by Jerry Maxwell, Thompson, Mo. The new "Tire Caddy" consists of a strong steel cable and a lockbox winch that mount beneath the bumper and bed of any pickup or van on the market. "You just turn the key on the lockbox and the tire, which is tied to the cable, drops instantly to the ground. Then, you simply reach under the pickup and slide it out," Maxwell told FARM SHOW. To replace the tire, you slip the hook device at the end of the Tire Caddy cable into the rim center as the tire lays on the ground and crank it back up with a tire wrench. Turning the key to the locked position secures the tire in place. The Tire Caddy mounts by drilling just four holes ù two in the bumper to hold the lockbox and winch, and two on the truck frame for the tire cable housing. Some pickups, including all Dodge pickups, require a slight adapter kit that consists of a bar on which to hang the cable. A special model is available for vans, RV's and other vehicles up to 1-ton size. Maxwell is working on a heavier model for all trucks, including semi's.
