Simon, president of Cattle Care Service, York, Penn. The firm has introduced a triangular-shaped knife which, for many years, has been widely used in Europe and other foreign countries. "It's faster and easier to use, and does a better job than conventional hoof-trimming nippers," says Simon. "Once you get used to it, you'll be able to trim hooves in half the time it now takes with your conventional tools." In addition to the triangular knife, Simon recommends "tooling up" with a small 8 in. hand shear for clipping hoof points. He sells the knife and shear, plus a special hand file for keeping the triangular knife sharp, for $57. Or, you can buy the tools separately at $29.50 for the knife, $9 for the file, and $27.50 for the shear. Cattle Care Service also manufacturers a Simon-designed, hydraulically-operated table to accommodate "the smallest calf to the wildest cow or largest bull" for hoof trimming, castration, branding, dehorning or veterinary treatment.
