Home-Built, Portable Round Bale Feeder BALE HANDLING Bale Handling (31B) 23-4-35 Our home-built, portable round bale feeder does a great job of reducing feed waste. It's built from 2 1/2-in. dia. drill stem pipe and measures 10 ft. long, 8 ft. wide, and 5 1/2 ft. high. Cattle eat through slanted steel bars spaced 16 in. apart. Bales are held inside a V-shaped unit that also has slanted bars spaced 16 in. apart. The two sets of slanted bars are offset. The floor slants down toward the sides, forming a 12-in. wide trough at the bottom on each side. Any feed that drops out of the cow's mouth falls into the trough. Both ends of the feeder, as well as the sides at the bottom, are enclosed with 3/16-in. sheet metal.
